About the programme
The students in the Master in Applied Gerontology at Universidade de Aveiro may have different backgrounds: some will have a degree in gerontology, aiming to deep their studies in the same area; while others have degrees in diverse areas (such as: nursing, psychology, social work, education) and want to procced in the field of gerontology. Employment is usually in:
- services supporting old persons (such as, day care);
- services that aim to promote active ageing;
- and community services that support the population in general.
This programme aims to:
- Apply knowledge to solve challenges or constraints associated to the current trends of demographic ageing;
- Develop and apply knowledge in professional practice and research in Gerontology;
- Update and extend professional skills acquired in pre-graduation within the context of Gerontology;
- Develop knowledge and skills to facilitate interdisciplinary team work and institutional partnerships;
- Develop knowledge and skills to implement interventions aiming to promote active ageing from a life course perspective and, particularly, in advanced age;
- Develop communication and applied skills of research findings;
- Extend and develop skills for autonomous learning.
